Paul Anthony Shortt is the older of two children. His younger sister, Tanya, also attended St. Kilian's.

Following his graduation from St. Kilians in 1998 he went on to study English and Greek and Roman Civilisation in University College Dublin. Since then he has travelled, gotten married, and become a published author. His first novel, Locked Within, tells the story of a man who dreams of past lives, and uses the knowledge of previous incarnations to investigate a series of murders which have taken place over the course of 150 years.

He lives in Bray with his wife.
